After the Kora Awards in South Africa, Pastor George Okudi sort of withdrew from the public eye and kept a low profile.

One hit wonder! prodded one of the tabloids. But the low profile was intentional. Okudi was actually rejuvenating his creative juices.

Last Sunday, he sprang back into the spotlight with the launch of his album Take Me to Calvary at the Garden City rooftop.

A good number of people parted with sh50,000 entrance fee and filled more than half the seats.

They were not disappointed. Okudi lit up the stage backed by his peerless dance force, dropping one by one of his hits that included Gwennina, Take me to Calvary and Wipolo with his usual gusto and style that sets him apart from the rest of the singing park in the country.

Guest of honour Onapito Ekomoloit paid sh1m for Take Me to Calvary. Ekomoloit referred to Okudi as the “Best that Uganda has ever produced.”

New acts at the launch included Riverside band from Tororo and Isaac kays. Betty Namaganda, one of the respectable voices on the Gospel circuit, created a bit of stir with her tight set, backed by four dancers.

Meanwhile, Prossy Nandudu reports that Pastor George Okudi is to celebrate this year’s Christmas with a Gospel show dubbed ‘Mega X-Mass X-plod’ in Mbale at the Municipal Stadium. ]

Gates open at 2:00pm for the first show, which will go up to 7:00pm and the next show starts at 9:00pm till morning.
