IMPORTERS of second-hand clothes (<i>mivumba</i>) will meet Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) officials next month.
IMPORTERS of second-hand clothes (mivumba) will meet Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) officials next month, writes Jovita Mirembe.
UNBS’s head of standards, Patrick Ssekitooleko, said the importers were complaining about supplying open bales to traders.
“The bales must be opened to see if they meet the standards. The importers say if they open them, they will lose customers,†he said
Ssekitooleko said the importers also complained about health certificates, which are very expensive because they have to be issued every time they bring in the clothes.
The traders asked UNBS to make the certificates valid for at least six months.
Health certificates are proof of importation of clothes from countries without diseases transmitted by sharing clothes.
