MEMEBERS of the Rwenzururu Kingdom Recognition Committee have accused the former Kasese resident district commissioner (RDC) and the district Movement chairperson of attempting to create confusion in the Bakonzo/Bamba kingship.

Led by their chairman, Yolamu Mulima, the committee told the press at rwenzururu Veterans Association office in Kasese town on Tuesday that George Mundele Basikania was a Congolese, who was encouraged by RDC zedekiya Karokora and bamusedde Bwambale to claim the rwenzururu kingship.

“Basikania was invited to Kasese by Karokora and the Movement chairman, Bamusedde,” Mulima said.

Bamusedde said he did not know Basikania and there was no way he could invite a stranger.

Mulima said a meeting was held on July 7, 1998, between the Rwenzururu elders and defence state minister Muruli Mukasa at Verina Gardens in Kasese town and Basikania attended.

“Basikania said he was one of the clan leaders who enthroned mumbere and there would be logic for him to claim the kingship,” Mulima said.

George Mundele Basikania died last November at Kagando Hospital and was buried at his home in Kikura in the eastern DR Congo.
His son became the leader of the Basu clan in Congo, Mulima said.

He said Swalleh basikania is not the son of George Mundele basikania but his brother, Babu Basikania. Babu immigrated to Kampala in 1964, Mulima said.
