Avoid coaching

A worried parent commented that the beginning of January means it is time to earnestly look for school fees. Although this is important, there is need to focus on how keep the holiday makers occupied. The first term begins on February 4.Some parents have hired teachers to give their children a head start on the next class’ work. This is in a bid for the child to achieve higher grades. Education psychologists say this is wrong. Yes, the child will be ahead of the others. But if this method continues throughout primary and secondary school, the child will be unable to cope at university or college. This is because the child will be used to being taught ahead of the rest of the class. This is not possible in higher institutions of learning.It is better that you help the child to improve on concepts which the child does not understand. This could be done in an informal way for about an hour a day. Allow the child to play, swim, take music lessons and perhaps learn a different language.Also, encourage them to do chores at home.
