MBARARA Municipality MP Winnie Byanyima was grilled for her continued late coming to court, as final submissions in the Ngoma Ngime petition opened in Kampala yesterday, reports Solomon Muyita.Former Mbarara High Court judge Vincent Kagaba asked Byanyima why she came late as soon as she entered the court at 10.40am. Byanyima wore her traditional pink kitenge outfit and a matching headscarf. The proceedings started at 9:00am.“My Lord, I came from Mbarara this morning. I delayed because the car broke down on the way,” she said. Byanyima said there was an urgent matter that compelled her to go to Mbarara the previous day. She said she could not return at night. But Justice Kagaba, who seemed not convinced, asked Byanyima to get a proper programme so that she attends court in time since she is the second respondent. “You are fond of coming late. You should choose either to serve God or the devil. You always interrupt my records because after writing that you’re absent, then you appear later,” he said.Ngime, the loser in the elections and former Mbarara Resident District Commissioner, was present in court together with his wife, Hanisa. The Mbarara returning officer, Hizzy Kafureka, the joint first respondent with the Election Commission, came at 10:55 am.Ends
