By Felix Osike and Gilbert Awekofua THE Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday nullified the candidature of Nebbi LC5 chairman, Asrom Alenyo, over presenting forged documents for nomination. The decision, which comes only two days to the election, leaves no candidate for the Nebbi LC5 seat. Other candidates were disqualified for failure to get the required number of signatures. Alenyo claimed to have sat for his “O” level in 1960 at General Secondary School (GSS) Kololo, now named Kololo Secondary School. He claimed his index number was 7209/151. He also claimed to have attended a 26-month broadcasting course facilitated by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation. However, both documents were found to be forged.“We have received communication from UNEB (Uganda National Examinations Board) to the effect that your educational qualifications are not equivalent to A’ level. The commission has in light of the communication from UNEB nullified your candidature for Nebbi LC5 chairperson,” said a letter signed by the EC chairman, Hajji Aziz Kasujja. Alenyo’s lawyer, who is also his son, William Alenyo, attended the EC meeting yesterday. He said he would vie for his father’s seat. Michael Odubu and Ukweda Rukuba petitioned the EC over Alenyo’s qualifications.Investigations revealed that Alenyo’s name does not appear among the candidates who sat for the ‘O’ level examinations in 1960 at Kololo SS. His name does not also appear on the private candidates’ list for the 1960 Cambridge examination results published by The Uganda Argus.Ends
