Police Defend Katumba Over Poll Security Alert

THE Police yesterday defended the Monday security guidelines issued by Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, regarding today’s LC5 elections.

Katumba Wamala, regarding today’s LC5 elections.The Police said the guidelines were “in order” but should not be mistaken for electoral laws.Kampala mayor John Ssebaana Kizito and his campaign committee on Tuesday attacked Katumba for warning that no one would be allowed to deploy personal security to guard ballot boxes today.Kampala’s Regional Police Commander Ahmed Wafuba yesterday said the Police would today be deployed at all polling stations in the city. He said, “We are going to deploy both foot and motorised Police patrols to enforce law and order at all polling stations in the city.” He said Katumba’s warning still stands.Ends
