By Dismus BuregyeyaThe Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi (pictured right), has asked Members of Parliament and the newly elected Local Council leaders to ensure that they “do not fail to effect their manifestos.”Ssekandi said this at a fundraising drive for the construction of a house for the priest at Kabwoko Catholic Church in Kyotera recently. He said leaders should be pro-people and endeavour to serve them and their interests. He asked them to attract investors in their areas who would set up projects that would give employment to the jobless youth. He appealed to the public to develop positive attitudes towards work instead of pointing a finger at the Government for the prevailing poverty. He said unless the rural people stopped the habit of drinking alcohol throughout the day, they might see little development taking place in their respective areas. He asked them to avoid getting involved in acts of sabotage against the Government saying this would retard development. He said programs like Universial Primary Education, modernisation of agriculture and promotion of health were the basic pillars of development. He pledged sh5m towards the construction.Ssembabule and Masaka LC5 chairmen, Herman Ssentongo and Vincent Ssempijja attended.Ends
