By Jamal Abdi ARINGA county MP Uthman Haruna Alonga has urged the Government to teach the constitution in local languages if the wanainchi are to effectively know their rights.Alonga said this recently during a national workshop for civic leaders on ‘Sensitisation of the people and consultation on the constitutional review exercise” at Eleke in Yumbe district.“Human rights violations occur because those who commit them don’t understand or respect the rights of others,” he said.Alonga cited child abuse as one of the gross violations of human rights. He said civil rights could only be prompted if citizens were given the opportunity to read and internalise the constitution in their languages. The workshop was organised by the Uganda Gender Resource Centre and the European Union in preparation for the constitutional review exercise.Ends
