ARMED bandits on Saturday killed yet another city resident and injured another after they broke into a shop in Nsambya, Gogonya zone, one of the dreaded high-crime suburbs of Kampala.

By Geoffrey KamaliARMED bandits on Saturday killed yet another city resident and injured another after they broke into a shop in Nsambya, Gogonya zone, one of the dreaded high-crime suburbs of Kampala.The dead woman, Harriet Mukasa, commonly known as Mama Brian, was shot by the thugs as they fled after residents raised an alarm.The incident is the latest in a series of murders and robberies by marauding gangs that have sent shivers among city residents. The Police spokesman, Asuman Mugenyi, said yesterday the bandits carried away household property and an unspecified amount of cash.Her body was taken to the city mortuary for a routine postmortem. The second victim, Blazio Byakatonda, whose shop the thugs attacked, was admitted to Nsambya hospital after being shot through the left leg.“Byakatonda tried to raise an alarm, so they shot him and the woman as they fled,” Mugenyi said. In another incident, armed robbers shot a man on Balintuma Road in Mengo and took away his saloon car. Neither the man’s identity nor his car registration number could be readily established because he was taken away unconscious.Ends
