Who matters in Uganda?

SIR— I support former president Godfrey Binaisa’s intention to sue for wrongful removal from office. Who does not know that his removal was wrongful? Obote was also wrongfully removed from office in 1971 and when he returned to office, under the auspices of UPC and our liberator Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, he appointed himself minister of finance in addition to being president. Then the first thing Obote did was to pay himself all the salary and benefits for the nine years he spent in Tanzania. He claimed he was still president while in Tanzania where he whiled away his time playing cards (matatu) with people like Chapaa! If we wait long enough and he returns, he will definitely claim his dues since July 1985.The Conqueror of the British Empire, Field Marital Amin Dada, life president (although wrongfully removed from office) is still entitled to all his benefits and he minister of finance’s budgets are all wrong since they never provide for this expense! When he comes, the country will pay. I can hear the late Tito Okello’s family also wondering when they will be compensated for his wrongful removal. My question to all and sundry is: Why does the public not sue the Republic of Uganda for all the wrong that we have suffered all these years through bad governance, death of our people, loss of our property etc, especially when wars have been fought, governments removed, wrongfully, as they claim, since 1964? Do we sue the Government or those who have misruled us? The answer is that we, the people, do not matter! F. MungerezaKampala
