By Grace MatsikoAnd Ali Mao in LiraKARIMOJONG warriors have signed a peace pact, a move likely to speed up the disarmament exercise being conducted by the UPDF in the region. The Kotido district council chairman, Callistus Lokwi Adome, said recently that the agreement between the Bokora and Jie warriors took place at Nakithikilet in Toror hills in Jie county recently.Unlike in common agreement where the parties involved sign papers, the warriors used their traditional method of breaking bones of white bulls slaughtered to celebrate the pact.“They broke the right thigh bone of the two white bulls. The bones broke evenly, that means it was their seal for peace,” Adome who witnessed the ceremony said. “If the bones broke unevenly, that would mean the peace process was not tenable,” he said.“The peace pact is a blessing to the disarmament exercise. It is a sign that the Karimojong have found a formula to their problems. For us the elite in trousers, we can’t do much” he said.Local sources said there was a similar agreement in 1980 between the two communities, which lasted about 13 years but the Karuchuna (youthful warriors) breached it.
