By Jude EtyangTHE Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) is to set up a commission to review its constitution.Among the contentious issues to be focused on is the clause on the term of office of the mufti. The Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje (pictured), has called for a meeting of the General Assembly, which is UMSC’s legislative arm, to discuss and appoint members of the review commission.A source close to Mubajje told The New Vision that Mubajje was particularly concerned about the provision which allows a mufti to reign until the age of 75 years. He reportedly wants this clause changed so that the Mufti can seat for a more “realistic” and shorter term of office.Ends
