Talks Should Be Taken Seriously

In your August 13 paper, there was a headline which read “Museveni writes to Kony.” On the same page, there was a letter to Mrs Kony, Oti, Tabuley and others.

In your August 13 paper, there was a headline which read “Museveni writes to Kony.” On the same page, there was a letter to Mrs Kony, Oti, Tabuley and others.I read the letter with very keen interest. One thing that I deduced that morning is that the President is now talking, as Celtel puts it.For 16 years, Government has fought Kony using all sorts of military weaponry to no avail, to the extent that many people out there have always requested President Museveni to talk peace with Kony. Now that the president has started initiating peace talks with Kony, this to me is a sign that maybe sooner than later there will be peace and security in northern Uganda. This is a good gesture, but I want to request either side to be serious about the aforesaid peace talks. It will be very meaningless to play the hide-and-seek games with each other, consequently wasting resources and time particularly. The two parties should actually be compromising for the good of the people of northern Uganda. These people have undergone untold suffering for the last 16 years. Get serious and God will reward you. For God and my country.Francis OnyaitTororo
