Why The Deafening Silence On GM Seeds?

SIR— I am appaled by the deafening silence exhibited by various bodies like NEMA, the Ministry of Agriculture, NARO, and our self-confessed environmental crusaders like the Lubaga MP Ken Lukyamuzi and the shameless support by especially The New Vision in the promotion of these very dangerous products called genetically modified seeds.The New Vision editor should be aware of the storm of protests against MOSANTOin his home country and elsewhere in Europe. Why is he not raising these concerns? Or is the developing world not to be subjected to the same standards as the developed world? Recently famine-stricken Malawi and Zimbabwe refused a donation of genetically modified maize from the United States. Why doesn’t the press in Uganda highlight the danger? Why are the newspapers in Uganda promoting MONSANTO and its local offshoot FINCA Seeds?Let not the press in Uganda abdicate its role of safeguarding the safety of society.
