The Inspector General of Police, Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, has said there was no rift between the president and the police force, adding that Museveni’s recent remarks about them was a mere challenge to work harder, reports Eddie Ssejjoba.

Katumba was responding to complaints from residents of Kyotera town in Rakai about the president’s remarks concerning the force yet according to them he (Katumba) had made big reforms that Museveni should have recognised.

“There are no contradictions between the president and the police. There are many ways of encouraging one to work harder. do not expect praises all the time,” Katumba said.

The IGP, who was on a two-days tour of Rakai, said the president’s comments were a challenge to the force.

“His comments are a challenge to us as a police force. he is telling us to wake up and perform better.
“He is telling us that if we have criminals in the force, we must remove them and yes we have criminals,” Katumba said.

He cited the case concerning the policewoman who was recently arrested for supplying guns to criminals as well as that of the Special Police Constable who was last week killed during a robbery on Kasensero road in Rakai district.
