JINJA Senior Secondary School became the new cricket giants after stunning fancied Kibuli SS by a decisive 13 runs to scoop the Coca Cola Schools Cricket trophy at Lugogo oval yesterday.
History was written as the captain for Jinja SSS Habib Mugalula took the final catch of Kibuli’s Ismail Nsereko in the last over to guarantee victory for his side.
Jinja SS, that joined the schools week champioships in 1988, had never reached the finals and the first time they did it, they went on to claim the trophy.
“We came here with one aim, to lift the trophy and I am happy we have,” a jovial Mugalula remarked.
Put in to bat, the eventual champions had a difficult cruise scoring 105/9 in the allotted 25 overs with Mugalula (25) as the hero for the side.
Kibuli suffered a setback when they failed the bowling examination of Charles Waiswa (3/11) in the first four overs.
Waiswa, dismissed Kibuli’s Francis Gala (00), Kibuka Musoke (00) and Ismail Galiwango (00) in his second over to build confidence.
Meanwhile, the national team that took part in the Africa Cricket Cup Championships in Zambia returns today.
