An official in the President’s Office has lashed out at politicians who believe a political office is a leeway to get “quick money.”
Margaret Muhanga Mugisa, a media officer in the President’s Office, told a regional conference on post election reconciliation held in Kasese on Friday that what makes leaders greedy is exorbitant demands by their constituents.
“Some people are poor and believe a political position is a leeway to get quick money. This causes greed and corruption because such people look forward to opportunities that would bring deals and hence make money,” Muhanga said.
The conference, which attracted over 100 councillors from Kasese, Kamwenge, Kabarole, Kibaale and Kyenjonjo districts, was organised by Forum for Integrity in Democracy (FID) in conjunction with Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
Muhanga said most leaders become greedy for money and do not want to leave power because they want to maintain the status quo. Ends
