The Rotary Club of Ssese Islands last week donated an assortment of items to internally displaced people in northern Uganda, writes Lillian Nalumansi.

The items include used clothes, plastic cups and plates, blankets, salt, soap, and toilet paper, the Lacor Hospital medical superintendent, Cyprian Opira, said this was one step in assisting the internally displaced people in northern Uganda.

“The people of northern Uganda, now displaced because of the insurgency, are surrounded by a sea of needs. We as Rotary Club of Gulu cannot do much but little by little. we will get a bundle to improve the lives of our people,” Opira said.

Rotarian Tim Lwanga also Luweero triangle minister handed over the items.

Club president rotarian Masadde Kabuye said the items would be dispatched to displaced people in Gulu, Pader, Lira, Kitgum and Apac.

“As rotarians, we decided to get together and collect some clothes and domestic items for the suffering people of northern Uganda.

Masadde said the support would continue. The rotarians will continue giving and looking for good samaritans to donate much-needed items to the displaced in northern Uganda.

“Our comrades from Bainbridge Island in the United States are sending an assortment of clothes to be here in January 2003,”Masadde said.
