SIR—I wish to comment on your article “UWA evicts 600 from park”, published on October 25.

Please note the following facts about this story: The area referred to is not a national park but a wildlife sanctuary.

Nobody was evicted from Queen Elizabeth National Park
and no cotton growing has ever taken place there.

According to the wildlife statute, settlement but not cultivation, is allowed in a wildlife sanctuary.

Hence, people settled in the sanctuary referred to in the article are being advised about this legal provision but are not being evicted as reported.

Cultivating cotton in the wildlife sanctuary would cause intense conflict between wildlife and the cotton growers.

It would lead to loss of their investments and poor relations.
