SHELL Uganda Ltd yesterday launched an AIDS campaign targeted at educating long-distance truck drivers on the dangers of the epidemic, reports Charles Ariko.
Shell country chairman Ivan Kyayonka said the campaign would be carried out jointly with UNAIDS, AMREF and the Amalgamated Transport & General Workers Union (ATGWU) in Uganda and Kenya.
“We are increasing their awareness and making condoms available to them to guard against infection. We have chosen them as one of our key customer segments.
“As a starting point we are focussing on the drivers of Shell contracted transporters. We shall later spread the initiative to other commercial drivers,” Kyayonka said.
