MEMBERS of the Karamoja Parliamentary Group (KPG) have called for urgent government intervention to save the region from mass starvation.

The KPG chairperson, Arch Lodou, said this year’s prolonged drought had caused over 50,000 families in the region to suffer severe food shortage.

He said many had a meal every three days.

He said renewed ethnic clashes between the Bokora and Pian had worsened the situation, forcing many families to resort to eating wild animals and fruits.

The Jie MP in Kotido, John Rex Achila, said Panyangara, Kaabong and Loyoro sub-counties in Jie county had received the poorest harvest in the district this year.

“People are starving and others have died. The Government should save the situation,” he said.
