SIR— In reaction to your editorial “The State shouldn’t kill'” on December 28, I say the death penalty should remain, however unpleasant it may be. Most Uganda have demonstrated the need for the death sentence by their taking the law into their hands and executing offenders using mob justice. When someone kills another, the enraged people simply want the perpetrator out of circulation. If people thought about the innocent who are killed in war, there would be no wars. But you know there are wars and those who die are regarded as collateral damage. Rogers Mataka Kampala
