Buganda To Get Museum

PLANS for a Buganda museum are in advanced stages, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere, has said.

By Edris KisambiraPLANS for a Buganda museum are in advanced stages, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Mulwanyamuli Ssemwogerere, has said.Ssemwogerere was speaking during the opening of an art show by Fred Mutebi at the Uganda Museum on Thursday. “Plans are in advanced stages to start a museum where we can keep our works of art, artifacts and some Buganda monuments that we cannot keep elsewhere, so as to keep our rich royal heritage intact,” Ssemwogerere said.Noah Nyanzi, the minister in charge of cultural affairs in the Buganda government, called on all Baganda artists to start working on art pieces for the museum.“You start forming the images now: Kabaka Mutesa’s exile in the UK, Kabaka Mwanga’s deportation to the Seychelles, the coronations we have had, the weddings as well as images depicting Buganda’s turbulent past,” Nyanzi said.He said the objective of setting up a museum was to store images of Buganda’s past for future generations.Ends
