By John EremuMAKERERE University Senate reconvenes on Tuesday to, among others, try to break the stalemate surrounding the proposed award of an honourary degree to Libyan leader, Col. Muammar Gaddafi. The proposal made last July to award Gaddafi an honoris causa, is almost turning political. The Libyan Ambassador, Abdulla Boujildein, last week attacked the university for failure to come up with a final decision. The university’s honourary awards committee headed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Ssebuwufu, has failed to make a final pronouncement on the matter because most members of the Senate have not returned their ballots. The final date for returning the ballots should have been January 24, but it has since been extended several times because the one-third quorum has not yet been realised.Ends
