THE Police in Lyantonde on Wednesday arrested a UPDF sergeant and a civilian for allegedly raping a 15-year-old bar attendant and inflicting injuries on her.

THE Police in Lyantonde on Wednesday arrested a UPDF sergeant and a civilian for allegedly raping a 15-year-old bar attendant and inflicting injuries on her. Eddie Ssejjoba reports that Sgt. Apollo Mabeta attached to Kabamba army detachment and Benjamin Talemwa, who were armed with knives also stole wine and money from the bar.The incident took place on Tuesday night in Lyantonde town council. The Southern Regional Police Commander, Benson Oyo Nyeko, told The New Vision that the suspects put the victim at knifepoint before raping her. He said they had earlier been at the bar but had left. They, however, came back late in the night when the customers and other attendants had left.‘The girl opened the door on hearing a knock thinking they were customers but they turned against her,’’ he said.Nyeko said the sergeant dressed in an army uniform and his friend in an army jacket threatened to harm the victim if she resisted.They allegedly picked sh85,000 from the bar and took wine worth sh80,000. The victim reported the incident to the Police the following morning. The suspects were transferred from Lyantonde to Kalisizo in Rakai.They were charged with defilement and theft among other charges.Ends
