Elderly man jailed for 10 years, weeps

During a High Court session in Bushenyi on Tuesday, a 71-year-old man profusely broke into tears after he was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison for defiling a five-year-old-child.The old man from Kitagata Bushenyi District said, “Ohoom! How can I spend 10 more years in prison. These years are too many. This is because of my land,” he yelled.He claimed that he had been framed by his neighbour, the father of the child, with whom he has had a long-standing land dispute. The court assessors, Winnie Mugisha and Anthony Katwiremu, had advised the judge to drop the charges, arguing that there were no strong case ingredients to incriminate him.ends
