Security Organs Accused Of Torture

By Charles ArikoSECURITY organisations are still torturing victims who are sometimes detained in ungazetted places.Samuel Nsamba, the medical director for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, yesterday said Local Defence Unit personnel were the leading security institution in torturing people.He was addressing a press conference at the centre offices to mark the UN International Day in support of victims of torture.Nsamba said, “The Police, the Army, the Prisons, the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence and LDUs have at one time or the other tortured people.“Torture is the greatest instrument against democracy. We don’t approve of military organisations arresting civilians and holding them in safe houses or ungazetted places.”Ends
