KAMPALA - The number of orphans in Uganda will hit 3.5 million by the year 2010, mostly arising from the AIDS pandemic, the UN children’s fund, Unicef, said on Thursday. The country chief, Jeenie van de Weerd, said 5% of Ugandans are HIV-positive. Compared to progress five years ago, the rate of decline is not good enough, she said.
