THE life members of the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) are suing the registered trustees over mismanagement of the association.

Can. John. Bikangaga, Ernest Ssempebwa, Godfrey Mukasa and S. Senkumba are also suing individuals, James Nkata the YMCA NEC chairman, and the treasurer, Dan Nkwata.

Others being sued are Robert Jjumba, the secretary-general and Clement Ndyashangaki, president of the YMCA national council. Among the trustees are Adonia Tiberondwa and J. Kamuhanda.

Through Sebalu & Lule Advocates, the life members claim that the defendants acted unconstitutionally, causing mal-administration of the association and financial losses.

They said this had put the association in Uganda in disrepute among other international YMCAs, subsequently causing the suspension of YMCA-Uganda from the Africa and World Alliances, its major funding partners.

In an 11-page plaint, they said, “The plaintiffs seek orders of court to rectify the situation in the organisation’s (YMCA-Uganda) management and for orders to dissolve the current management and to redeem what has been squandered.”

YMCA is a non-profit charitable organisation, whose objectives are to help young men develop a Christian character and provide them with facilities and activities for a wholistic development.
