I suggest that sign language be the national language!

SIR— Over the years, Uganda has been in need of having a national language. However, the demand has failed because of having so many languages. If one of the languages was considered and recognised, other tribes would not have interest to learn it.
However, if sign language could be adopted, all Ugandans would have much interest to learn it as it does not belong to any other tribe.
It is estimated that 10% Ugandans are people with disabilities and 50% of the number are of hearing impairment if it could be calculated well, the number of those who know the sign language and those who should learn it can be over than the number of some of the other tribes’ languages.
In Uganda, there about four different types of sign language Uganda: the British, the United states of America and the international sign language. They are, however, almost same if we use their alphabet.
Therefore if Parliament could adopt the international sign language as Uganda’s national language, the Ministry of Education and Sports in Conjunction with the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Community Development Could prepare a syllabus for schools and other institutions like the Adventist Relief Agency (ADRA) Complementary Opportunities for Primary Education (COPE), Functional Literacy (FAL), among others.
May I therefore request all Ugandans to support sign language as a national language. Thank you.
