KAMPALA City Council (KCC) says the Kitezi Dumping Site in Wakiso district, is over loaded as over 450 tons of garbage are disposed in it daily.
Michael Mudanyi, KCC’s engineer in charge of solid waste management under the Nakivubo Channel Rehabilitation Program, says KCC had started burying the waste to rid the environment of foul smells and other hazards.
“There is no alternative to landfills (burying waste) in the whole world. Recycling garbage is just a temporal solution to waste disposal,†says Mudanyi.
He says the lichen treatment plant at Kitezi had reduced the dangers of contaminating under ground waters surrounding the dump.
