ARUSHA- Hosts Tanzania and perennial rivals Kenya kick off the oldest competition in African soccer, the East and Central African Senior Challenge Cup, Saturday.
Kenya are the form side in the east African region and last month won a four nations tournament in Tanzania that also featured World Cup finalists South Africa.
They have also won two successive African Nations Cup qualifying matches and look strong bets to become the first east African country to reach the continental finals in more than a decade.
Coach Jacob Mulee has called up Belgian-based John Muiruri and Paul Oyuga from Orebro in Sweden for the match in Mwanza but South African based captain Musa Otieno, will not be travelling because of club commitments.
Kenya and Uganda were the first competitors in 1926 in the old Gossage Cup, which has evolved over the decades.
Uganda open against Somalia tomorrow.
