SUDANESE President Omar el-Bashir and the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army rebel chief Col. John Garang are due for another face-to-face meeting to be brokered by President Yoweri Museveni, reports Felix Osike.

Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Ismail said in Khartoum on Monday that Uganda was making arrangements for the meeting.

Their unprecedented first encounter in Kampala in July, supported a blueprint for peace drawn up in Machakos, Kenya.

Their preliminary accord provides for a referendum at the end of a six-year period of self-rule in southern Sudan to determine if the region secedes or not.

Sudanese envoy Hamid Sirajuddin yesterday said, “The request for the meeting has been placed by President Museveni to have the parties sit down before the next round of talks in Machakos. Other sources said the meeting will take place in Kampala this month.
