Smiles of joy decorated Fred Nangoli’s face after he was crowned winner of the prestigious Cranimer Mugerwa Memorial Award, writes Herbert Ssempogo.

“All I can say is that photos are going to be my mode of communication from now on,” Nangoli said after receiving the award.

Nangoli, a final year student at Makerere University will smile all the way to the bank this festive season.

He received sh500,000 courtesy of The New Vision in recognition of his performance in photojournalism.

The lucky young man also got a plaque, in addition to six-months employment at the corporation.

The award is presented annually by The New Vision, to the best photojournalist student at the Mass Communication department.

Nangoli could not hide his excitement as he received the award from the Sunday Vision editor, Joachim Buwembo, at the Makerere Guest House gardens.

“I could not have done this by myself. My lecturers played a very big role. They were very supportive,” he said.

He commended The New Vision for coming up with and sustaining the idea of the award.
