UNEB's Bukenya cites death threat

Matthew Bukenya, the Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) Secretary, has said he has been threatened with death for having blocked presidential aspirant Ntege Sebaggala's new academic qualification papers, reports Kezio D. Musoke. Bukenya told The New Vision yesterday that he had got numerous phone calls both on his mobile phone and at home from unidentified people saying they are going to kill him for being a Muganda traitor. "Many people referring to themselves as Sebaggala's men have called, threatening me. Some have said I am traitor, and that Museveni has given a bribe of many billions of money to block Sebaggala's new documents that certifies his qualification, Bukenya said. "I have even feared to go back to the UNEB office. I fear for my life because some others have said they have planted a bomb at the offices. They say that I am a Muganda traitor and I am not worth being in the public with them," he said. But when Sebaggala's co-ordinator, Michael Mabike, was contacted for a comment, he said he was in a meeting and requested to be contacted later in the day. Bukenya said Sebaggala still stood a small chance because the UNEB board is yet to sit today and discuss the fate of the new copies certifying his qualifications handed in on Friday evening. "It is not easy to call the whole board, but Sebaggala still stands a chance. It only takes a quorum of about 26 board members, at least about 18 with the chairman, Mr. Wana Etyem, and members of the Security Council, then we shall discuss Sebaggala's fate," Bukenya said. "I don't know what Sebaggala's men want from me. Some other supporters have said I will only eat Museveni's billions when I am in the ground. I fear for my life," he said. Bukenya said he would report whoever is responsible for the threats to the Police. Ends.
