Five die in Lugazi crash

Five people died on the spot when a Toyota omnibus UBC 064 collided with another omnibus UAD 906S at Kayanja trading centre near Lugazi town yesterday.

By Nicholas Kajoba Five people died on the spot when a Toyota omnibus UBC 064 collided with another omnibus UAD 906S at Kayanja trading centre near Lugazi town yesterday. The dead are the two drivers, Mustafa and Badru Kayongo, Peter Tamunoza a resident of Nagojjye in Mukono district, Fred Kasozi of Mukono and another unidentified male adult. Their bodies were taken to Kawolo hospital mortuary. Mukono traffic Police officer Patrick Mugisha said the accident was caused by cyclist who was trying to cross the road. Mugisha said the driver of one of the omnibuses collided with the other vehicle as he tried to avoid knocking the cyclist down. More than 20 people were seriously injured and have been admitted to Kawolo Hospital. They include Iganga deputy Resident District Commissioner, Benjamin Omongole, Patrick Mwogeza an Iganga LC5 executive member, Patrick Lukomwa, a resident of Kyampisi in Mukono district, and Grace Kaunda of Ssembatya in Iganga. Others are the Rev. Kasozi of Lugazi town, Fiat Namatovu of Kisenyi in Kampala, Mwasiti Namulondo of Kyebando, Annet Adongo of Kampala and James Galabuzi of Iganga. Ends.
