STUDENTS of Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo yesterday marched through Kampala demanding the resignation of acting dean Godfrey Ayebare, reports Kikonyogo Ngatya. The students carried placards demanding loan schemes at the college, better sanitation, good food and new beds in their halls of residence. They said they wanted education minister Khiddu Makubuya to intervene in the cost-sharing system and provide enough lecturers at the institute. Makubuya declined to comment on the issue when contacted on phone yesterday. He said he was at a funeral. Jude Enwodu, the students' speaker, who led the group to the Ministry of Education, said Ayebare was forcing students to pay sh329,000 in cost-sharing at the beginning of every year. He said most students were used to paying the money at the start of every term. Geoffrey Okwisa, an education ministry official, said there would be an inquiry into the matter. Ends
