Lubia to captain UCA XI

JOHN Lubia and Junior Kwebiiha will captain the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) select XI teams to play against the touring London club Dulwich on Saturday and Sunday at Lugogo Oval.

The Dulwich games will also provide a test for the Ugandan team that is preparing for the mini World Cup in Canada. UCA secretary Justine Ligyalingi yesterday asked the players selected, to confirm with the two captains if they will be available. Ligyalingi, said the visiting team with a contingent of 30 players and officials has been booked at Hotel Equatoria. Kwebiiha's side that will play on Saturday has C. Engola, R. Sempa, J. Mwanja, K. Kamyuka, K. Legesi, E. Kibirango, R. Okia, M. Ntanda, F. Nsubuga, I. Tawithmwira, R. Otim, C. Lwanga and J. Olwenyi. Lubia has H. Osinde, T. Mbazzi, S. Serugga, R. Mwami, L. Sematimba, H. Okecho, S. Nsubuga, N. Bibodi, B. Musoke, I. Lule, D. Meya, A. Othieno and H. Kato. Meanwhile, UCA will release the revived Mawanda Cup fixtures today after the annual general assembly at Lugogo Sports Club. The Mawanda Cup has been in limbo for nearly half a decade due to financial constraints. The tournament is held to commemorate former Prince George Mawanda, one of the first African cricket players. Ligyalingi said at the Luswata Cup final prize ceremony on Sunday that Uganda's cricket fraternity will always remember the fallen comrades Luswata and Mawanda respectively. Tornado won this year's Luswata Cup final. The Luswata family has produced national players like Stephen Luswata, Paul Nsibuka and lady Susan Luswata. Ends
