By David Kasanga THE Government is to resettle about 800 families, mainly Nubians, who are scattered around Masindi port area and Kigumba sub-county. Mrs Betty Adima, the Masindi resident district commissioner, in a meeting with the Nubian community at Kigumba sub-county headquarters on Wednesday said the resettlement programme would begin soon. Adima said most of the Nubians were currently living with friends and tribesmates. A big number of Nubian families fled nothern Uganda into Masindi after the overthrow of former president Idi Amin, allenging they were persecuted. In a memorandum read by their chairman, the Nubians asked to be compensated for the property they lost. They said the 1995 Constitution recognised them as Ugandan citizens. The Nubians promised to vote for Yoweri Museveni on March 7. "The Government recognises and sympathises with you for your lost property but compesation is difficult. It is not easy to establish who lost what, otherwise all of us will want compesation because we also lost somehow," Adima said. Anuna Omar, the presidential advisor on religious affairs, criticised presidential candidate Kizza Besigye for trying to divide the army. She attacked Besigye's wife, Winnie Byanyima, for praising Nasser Sebaggala who was jailed in the US for fraud. Anuna said Muslims were not sidelined by the Movement Government and cited ministers who are Muslims. Ends
