Failing Environment Blamed On Corruption

By Eva Nabagesera MS. Judy Kamanyi, the vice-chairperson for Aggrey Awori's task force, has said bad governance and corruption were responsible for environmental degradation. Addressing a recent conference seeking candidates' commitment to the environment, Kamanyi said, "People have put up permanent structures in wetlands because government officials compromise their office." The conference organised by the Joint Energy and Environment Project was attended by Awori, Yoweri Museveni and Kibirige Mayanja's representatives. Leonard Ekapu, from Museveni's task force said the Government deserved to be commended for the creation of institutions that deal with environmental issues. Mayanja's representative, Siraje Balinda said his candidate would ensure that environment issues are handled by professionals. Ends
