Mpigi counts UPE teachers, pupils

MPIGI - Education authorities in Mpigi district are carrying out a census of all pupils and their teachers in the district. This was revealed by the chief district education officer, Male Ssekamatte. The census is to find out the actual number of pupils in the district so that the accountability for UPE funds is streamlined. The last census of both teachers and pupils was carried out throughout the country in 1999. Male explained that on top of weeding out ghost pupils, the exercise will also dig out ghost teachers, whose names appear on the payroll. Ends
