By Edith Kimuli THE High Court has ordered the Uganda Confidential Editor-in- Chief, Teddy Seezi Cheeye, to pay sh22m to the Minister of Ethics and Integrity, Miria Matembe and her husband Nekemia, for a defamatory article published against them. Justice Gideon Tinyinondi said in his judgement yesterday that the article entitled, "I say are there no other women" published in the November 2-9, 1995 issue, defamed the couple. The article alleged that Mr. Matembe had an affair with their housegirl and had two children with her. It also added that Miria did not castrate him as she preached. The couple said the article depicted Mr. Matembe as an immoral man, who also took advantage of the housegirl. It also depicted him as an adulterous man and his wife an accomplice. The plaintiffs also told the court that the article had caused them ridicule and that they were shunned by people. Mr. Matembe said their four sons also shunned him. He said they were happily married. Miria is an MP and lawyer while Mr. Matembe is a Uganda Breweries productions manager. Ends
