FORMER British foreign secretary Baroness Lynda Chalker yesterday visited Metro Cash and Carry Supermarket, Nakawa, Kampala, reports Stephen Ilungole. She was welcomed by general manager Janoedien Abrahams who guided her around for about 15 minutes. She said she would attend President Museveni's swearing-in ceremony at Kololo today, although she said that was not the major reason for her visit. "I was the very first foreign person to visit Uganda after Museveni took over power in 1986. So even if I did not come for the swearing-in ceremony, I would still have to attend it," Chalker said. She said she was impressed by the willingness exhibited by Ugandans to work together to change their country, which she said was special for her. Chalker said, "I can see a lot of improvements, lots of challenges. But the good thing is the willingness of Ugandans to work together for change. I've seen Uganda change from an impossible to a prosperous situation." Unilever brand manager Allan Were said Chalker, an honorary director for Unilever world-wide, was one of their biggest customers. Ends
