By Hamis Kaheru THE ministry of water, lands and environment has directed the Chinese company reconstructing Nakivubo Channel to remove the soil it has dumped in a wetland between Bugolobi and Namuwongo. Assistant commissioner in-charge of wetlands, Paul Mafabi, said yesterday that China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) had been given seven days to remove the soil from the swamp. CCECC last year won the US$24.9m contract to de-silt and widen the 9km channel from Wandegeya to Luzira to control floods in the city. Mafabi said CCEC was allowed to dump the soil extracted from the channel on a private land but later encroached on the swamp. The land on Plot 2-6 Binayombwa Close, off Luthuli Avenue, belongs to Fred Karyango. Ends
