POLICE investigations have revealed that the MP for Igara East constituency in Bushenyi district, Dr Richard Nduhura, voted twice during the June 26 elections.

By Raynel Kanyambu POLICE investigations have revealed that the MP for Igara East constituency in Bushenyi district, Dr Richard Nduhura, voted twice during the June 26 elections. The south-western CID boss, Terence Kinyera, yesterday said the Police had finished recording statements from all the election officials at the polling stations where Nduhura allegedly committed the malpractices. Kinyera said Nduhura accepted voting at Kitwe Parish Headquarters I polling station in Kyeizooba sub-county, but his name was again found ticked at Town Clerks Compound polling station in Bushenyi town. The Police said the presiding officer of the Town Clerks Compound polling station, Bob Karakire, the polling officials and agents of all candidates had taken statements that Nduhura voted from there. "The preliminary investigations are accomplished. We have submitted the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for perusal and legal advice before any other step is taken", Kinyera said. He took the last records from this controversial register on Saturday during the vote recount that saw all candidates gain votes. Although Kinyera declined to say what punishment the MP would get, impeccable Police sources said if the DPP sanctions the file, Ndahura ought to be arrested and subsequently recalled from Parliament. The Bushenyi resident state attorney, Silver Mwesigwa, confirmed having received the file, but declined to make any comment. Nduhura, who marginally beat Spencer Turwomwe, Alfred Bangirana, and Sam Mwesigwa, replaced Major Amanya Mushega, the current secretary general for the East African Community. Turwomwe, who lost to Nduhura again in the Saturday's recount, had asked court to disqualify Nduhura for voting twice and declare him winner. Ends
