Jilted Wife Kills Her Four Children

By Abubaker Mukose in Jinja A jilted housewife on Wednesday night killed her four children. The 32-year-old Florence Alilumboyo first poisoned the children before strangling them. She said she killed the children because she could no longer maintain them following her separation with her husband. The incident occurred at Nsube, in Buwenge sub-county, where the suspect together with the children, were visiting a sister-in-law, Theresa. Alilumboyo had travelled from Kanyale village in Kidera sub-county, Kamuli district where the family had been living. The district Police commander, Mr. Anthony Emoding, identified the dead as Simon Kasami, 9, Ebisa Mbira Byasali, 41/2, Naku Kasami, 31/2, and Margaret Kasiri who was only 10 months old. The Police said Alilumboyo made the children to swallow digital cells (for watches) and later strangled them one by one as they struggled with the poison. She also claimed to have swallowed the cells. The bodies that were picked by the Police were stained with mud. Two of the dead children had their feet gnawed by rats. “I wanted to die together with my children but it seems the cells that I swallowed could not react effectively on me,” Alilumboyo said. All entries to the Jinja Central Police Station were temporarily closed to restrain a mob that had demanded to lynch the suspect. Scores of Jinja residents including women shed tears, as they demanded to be given the suspect to lynch. Alilumboyo told the Police that her husband, Samuel Mbegeresa, currently living in Wakyato sub-county in Luweero district, abandoned her with the children. The Police chief said the suspect was likely to be charged with murder, depending on the postmortem report. He said the suspect would also undergo a mental check. Ends
