A man known as Makanika in Mengo Kisenyi, battered his wife for having engaged in a conversation with a neighbour in English. Makanika who dropped out of school in lower primary, has problems with English. On Tuesday, he could not control his temper when he listened to the prolonged conversation between his wife and the neighbour. He interrupted their conversation, called his wife to give him something, but the next thing the neighbours heard was the woman screaming. The crowd gathered within a few minutes, but Makanika fled leaving the curious crowd asking his wife to tell them what had happened. She did not hide the dirt. She told the curious crowd that her husband wanted to know what she was discussing with the neighbour. “Ayagadde mmubulile kyetubadde twogera mulungeleza atte kulwaki?,” she said meaning that he wanted to know what they were discussing in English and why.
