By Nasur Wambedde ABOUT 10,000 homes in f Mbale district lack latrines, a survey carried out by district health workers under RUWASA project in 25,000 homes has revealed. The report indicated that 36,662 homes in the district could access clean water from the 565 water sources constructed by RUWASA. This was disclosed at a two-day workshop organised by RUWASA at Mt. Elgon Hotel last week. The workshop, which attracted community health workers and district heads of departments centered on how to improve on hygiene and sanitation among rural communities. the district water officer, Emmanuel Longo, urged community health workers to ensure that community health programmes are fully implemented and benefit the residents. He cited the delay in the flow of information from the grassroot to the district and poor coordination in various departments as obstacles that created poor working envinroment and substandard work. “We shall only be appreciated if we struggle to improve on the people’s living conditions,” Longo said.
