PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has named Brig. Henry Tumukunde as director general of the Internal Security Organisation and David Pulkol as that of External Security, security sources said yesterday.
By press time, the State House had not yet commented on the reshuffle.
Col. Elly Karuhanga, the commandant of the army rehabilitation unit in Mubende, becomes the deputy director general of ISO replacing Besigye Amooti who crosses to ESO in the same position, sources said.
Pulkol returns to ESO for a second term. He left the organisation in 1999 after expiry of his two year-term and later served in Nairobi as a deputy UNICEF director for eastern Africa.
He replaces Maj. Gen. Fred Oketcho whose new posting is not yet known.
Tumukunde, who was until last year the chief of Chieftancy of Military Intelligence (CMI), replaces Brig. Ivan Koreta, who a fortnight ago, flew to Nigeria for one-year course at Nigeria’s prestigious National Defence College.
State minister for security Muruli Mukasa who yesterday appeared before the presidential and foreign affairs committee of the Parliament, denied knowledge of changes.
He said Oketcho was still the boss of ESO and that Koreta was out of the country for a course.
But Pulkol and Oketcho said they had not received communication from the appointing authority.
